I'm slodwick. Welcome to my mind palace. I've filled it with pretty people, baby animals, and tv shows that make me cry. I spend a lot of time marveling at Tom Hiddleston's face and Martin Freeman's typing skills.

Also, I enjoy puns more than I should.

#everything you need to know about sherlock in one gifset

Add a couple passersby saying “I bet those two are fucking” “Yeah, definitely” and you’ve got the whole show.

That guy at the table behind Sherlock is clearly writing fic about them.

I unabashedly ship Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.

mallamun:

First of all: yes, presuming to know how a show writer feels about the characters, and trying to label them into the fandom community against their will, is seriously left field of any semblance of etiquette.

That said-

Many people who have admonished this behavior have tacked on sentiments that relishing a romantic or sexual interpretation of these two characters’ relationship is perverted, immature, in poor literary taste, and should be kept out of public view.

On that point, I could not possibly disagree more.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Doyle’s stories leave the door wide open. Whether you interpret Holmes and Waton’s relationship as the friendship of the ages, a platonic life partnership, a deeply romantic relationship, a raw sexual connection, or any variation thereof, you do not need to change a single line of Doyle’s stories to accommodate your viewpoint.

It is for this remarkable reason that the Sherlock Holmes stories are, collectively, the greatest love-story ever written.

It is in no way an insult to Doyle or to the material to lean one way or the other on this. You would be naive to think that people “shipped” these two with any less fervency while the stories were in active print: we do not have overt records of that behavior because of the political climate of the times, but we know it was there. The progenitor to much of “queer culture” as we know it was on fire and gathering exponential momentum at the time that these stories were written. Doyle was not ignorant of this fact, nor was he ignorant of the fact that the sort of “bachelor” stories he was writing were a popular form of veiled media for queer readers. His social circles were by no means devoid of such men. (The man got chummy with Wilde, for crying out loud.)

Those of us who “ship” Sherlock Holmes and John Watson are part of a passionate section of this fanbase that dates back over one hundred years, just as much as those who relish the stories as tales of immortal friendship. Heck, there was honest-to-god fan fic of the extremely queer variety being written contemporaneously to Doyle’s publications: just look up Raffles and Bunny. This is because of the material itself, and not because Victorian/Edwardian England had a Rule 34. That sort of random, thoughtless lust—the meaningless copy and pasting of characters into unlikely situations—would not hold water over the course of a century. What other classic works have fostered such an attachment to the bond between their male protagonists? The passion and appreciation for Holmes and Watson’s friendship, in all its manifestations, has a truly unique character that stems directly from the material, and the sheer range of their dynamic shines through in all subsequent adaptations.

It is not disrespectful to the material, or in the slightest out of the spirit of the material, to contemplate and enjoy a range of connectivity between these two men that includes sexuality and/or romanticism. Those who create adaptations from the works often joke about this in a disingenuous way, but this is because—especially as society has advanced—the subject is difficult to ignore. The intensity, intimacy, and energy of these two men’s relationship was simply such that it is impossible to put them on a screen together without being confronted by a palpable synergy that the sexually and romantically inclined portion of the population will be forced to grapple with.

Whether one chooses to dismiss that as a humorous undertone, to interpret it as a sign of friendship much more exquisite than any our media tends to give us, or to interpret it as sexual/romantic love, one is entirely within the realm of the tasteful and the thoughtful. All of these approaches are valid and respectful ways to enjoy the material. Again: this is truly the magic of the Sherlock Holmes stories, and no doubt a major contributing factor to their immortality. Clever detective stories are a dime-a-dozen: stories that can capture the elusive meeting of souls in motion are rare.

I ship them, and I’d be prepared to stand in front of any Holmesian scholar; any fan; and yes, any show writer; and say so.

But seriously.

Don’t put those words in people’s mouths. That’s not cool.

“Clever detective stories are a dime-a-dozen: stories that can capture the elusive meeting of souls in motion are rare.”
UGH I WANT TO MAKE OUT WITH THIS POST.

'SHERLOCK: THE CASEBOOK' BOOK SYNOPSIS REVEALED

johnhwatson-:

sherlockology:

The synopsis has just been revealed on Amazon UK for the FIRST official tie-in guide to BBC Sherlock. Currently scheduled for release on October 25 2012, you can pre-order the Hardcover book using this attached link.

The first official guide to the BBC hit series Sherlock.

Fans of Sherlock Holmes will already be familiar with The Great Game — in which all characters and events in the novels are assumed real and discussed accordingly. BBC hit Sherlock has brought Conan Doyle’s legendary detective to a whole new audience and Sherlock: The Casebook is The Great Game for the next generation. This is no ordinary guide.

Each case is brought to life on the page and re-examined through Dr Watson’s blog, Inspector Lestrade’s police reports, newspaper articles about the crimes, Sherlock’s detective notes and any other surviving clues from the cases.

Interspersed amongst the evidence are exclusive interviews with the stars of the show, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Rupert Graves, writers and co-creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat and the production team on everything from writing the scripts and bringing the characters to life on screen to set design and production.

This is a multi-dimensional companion to Sherlock and a glorious tribute to the world-famous detective.

MOTHER OF GOD

Summary: What if Sherlock was never real? What if he has always been a figurement of John Watson’s traumatized mind? A cure to ease John’s loneliness after the war.

I promised you I’d do a trailer to this amazing story/concept/idea and BAM! here it is…

OH OH OH MY GOD. This is everything I wanted (apart from the actual show being real).

And which character is being cockblock in this episode? And by who? I think the answer is everyone. It’s just a big threeway cockblock.

It is Cockblock. That’s the name of the show.

Is it still illegal to marry your fandom?
